Privacy Policy

Macouta (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Macouta mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Macouta, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

We collect information in two ways: information you provide directly, and information collected automatically when you use the app.

Information you provide

• Account information from Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, which may include your name and email address depending on your privacy settings with those providers.
• Location data, when you grant permission, to show you events near you. You may deny or revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
• Saved events, preferences, and any content you create within the app.

Information collected automatically

• Device identifiers and operating system version, used for troubleshooting and improving app performance.
• App usage data such as screens viewed and features used, collected in aggregate and not linked to your identity.
• Crash reports and diagnostic data to help us identify and fix bugs.

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Macouta app and its features.
• Show you local events relevant to your location.
• Authenticate your account through Apple or Google sign-in.
• Send you notifications about events you’ve saved or expressed interest in, only if you have granted notification permission.
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the app experience.
• Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions and other illegal activities.
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising profiling.

3. Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google

When you authenticate using Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide us with a unique identifier and, at your option, your name and email address. Apple’s Hide My Email feature may route communication through a relay address — we support this and will only communicate with the address provided to us.

When you authenticate using Sign in with Google, Google provides us with your name, email address, and profile photo associated with your Google account. Your use of Google sign-in is also governed by Google’s Privacy Policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy.

We do not receive your Apple or Google passwords under any circumstances.

4. Location data

Macouta’s core function is to help you find events near you. To do this, we request access to your device’s location. We use location data only to surface relevant local events and do not store precise location history on our servers beyond the session in which it is used.

You can withdraw location permission at any time by going to your device’s Settings app. If you decline location access, you can still use Macouta by entering a location manually.

5. Data sharing and disclosure

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share your information with:

• Service providers who assist us in operating the app, such as cloud hosting and analytics providers. These parties are contractually obligated to handle your data only as directed by us and in accordance with this policy.
• Law enforcement or regulatory bodies when required by applicable law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
• A successor entity in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, provided the successor agrees to honor this Privacy Policy.

6. Data retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children’s privacy

Macouta is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate information.
• Request deletion of your account and associated data.
• Opt out of non-essential communications.
• Withdraw consent for location access at any time through your device settings.

10. California residents

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights. To submit a request, contact us using the information below. We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we will notify you through the app or by email. Your continued use of Macouta after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
